Fear or Just Mashed Potatoes

They say in life we are our own biggest obstacles and the fear that we carry into each day is what keeps us from what we really desire in life. This story really summarizes this thought . . .

A little girl who went to a haunted house put on by some of the parents in the neighborhood. She was scared as could be and did not want to go, but all the neighborhood kids were going as well as her siblings, so she went too. The walk to the haunted house seemed to last forever. She was terrified and afraid of every shadow and noise with each step she took – she was fearful that something was going to jump out and get her on that Halloween night.

They finally arrived and upon entering the haunted house, the kids had to enter a low lit room to put their hands into bowls to feel “body parts” and other “slimy creatures”. Of course some kids were afraid and did not put their hands in the bowls and the other who did touch the stuff in the bowls, were utterly grossed out. Than the kids proceeded to walk through the rest of the house scared at every corner and worried about what might or might not pop out at them in.

The next day, the little girl’s mother was part of the clean up crew and so the little girl tagged along to help the mom clean up. When she got to the haunted house, she was surprised to see the Haunted House, was not so haunted and not so scary after all.

The dark shadows and eerie turns through the house were clean and bright beautiful hallways of a Historical building. And the “slimy creatures” that were in the bowls were fruits and noodles and the body parts was mainly instant mashed potatoes. Nothing about the haunted house seemed so scary any more.

Do you find yourself worrying about each step you take? Are you afraid of what you are going to feel in the bowl? Do you find yourself living in fear of what is around the next corner? Of what might pop out at you?

Most likely the thing you are most fearful of is probably something as simple as a box of instant mashed potatoes.
